A new research group focusing on health and healthcare economics is being established at ECON MUNI. Jaroslav Groero, who joined the faculty in Spring of this year, is one of the people behind its creation. He will investigate, for example, how financial crises affect people's health.
The economic benefits of monuments for their surroundings can be estimated by a new tool developed by a team of scientists from ECON MUNI led by Alena Šafrová Drášilová. It is particularly useful for managers and directors of cultural monuments, who can use it to justify investments in reconstruction and preventive measures.
What do we breathe in Brno and how can we make the air cleaner in the future? The team of Vilém Pařil and Dominika Tóthová, in cooperation with the City of Brno, will propose measures for cleaner air and, consequently, better quality of life in the city. In recent weeks, the scientists have met several times with representatives of the city's districts to hear their comments.
The MUNI Innovation Award went to Vilém Pařil, Martin Šauer and Daniel Seidenglanz (in memoriam) from the Faculty of Economics and Administration. Using data on SIM card movements, they were able to find out how many people regularly travel between Prague, Brno, and Ostrava. Their research can be used, for example, by the Ministry of Transport or Czech Railways.
