Popis Some preliminary results are presented on the effects two hydropeaking reservoirs in the Czech Republic exert on the downstream riverine community of chironomid larvae. Density and species richness decrease below both studied dams. Directly below the Vír Reservoir, there is an increase in relative abundance of Orthocladiinae, and further downstream the river is dominated by Tanytarsini. Seventeen kilometers downstream from the dam, the abundance shares of individual subfamilies and tribes are almost identical again with the situation upstream from the dam. Further changes downstream occurred as increased shares of the tribe Chironomini. The shallower Brno Reservoir does not cause such a large decrease in the number of taxa although increases of Orthocladiinae were similar.
