Popis | Myths explaining solar and lunar eclipses are stories told in the mythical system about the sun and moon that are popular in Vietnam and around the world. In the Master’s thesis Survey on the type of stories conquering the sun in folk tales of Vietnamese ethnic groups (Hanoi National University of Education, 2005), the author Can Thi Hong Lien compiled a list of 36 stories about the sun from about 16 ethnic groups in Vietnam and 14 stories from 6 neighbouring countries. There are also many stories about the sun and the moon in the myths of Southeast Asian countries. Starting from the theoretical pivot of the motif and the method of textual analysis combining the cultural approach, the article examines the myths explaining the eclipses of the sun and moon in Vietnam and some Southeast Asian countries, the set of stories to which few people pay attention but which are no less rich and popular. |
