Popis | Paleoclimate research focuses mainly on the long-term, large-scale development of past climates, particularly changes in temperature. The results of this research are, however, rarely suited to understanding short-term, local impacts on economies and societies. In this respect, there is a gap between the scale on which paleoclimatologists provide information and the scale on which humans have responded—and still respond—to weather and climate, and their effects. Weather provides the link between climate history and human history, as well as the raw material for the statistical reconstruction of climate. For these reasons, historical climatologists work to recover high-resolution, monthly, seasonal, and sometimes even daily data on both temperature and precipitation. |
