Popis | The polyvalent staphylococcal bacteriophages of family Myoviridae are characterized by a wide host range and are therefore employed in phage therapy of staphylococcal infections. Phage 812, a member of this group, lyses 65 % of S. aureus strains and its host range mutants lyse up to 95 % of strains. Nevertheless, some strains are resistant to these phages, which may decrease the effectivity of phage-based drugs. In this work, we analyzed causes that are responsible for that resistance. We focused on factors influencing susceptibility of strains to phages, i.e. (i) effectiveness of phage adsorption onto cells; (ii) impact of the SauI restriction-modification (RM) system; and (iii) effect of the lysogeny. |
