Description Bacterial strains of genus Lactobacillus from Czech Colection of Dairy Microorganisms (CCDM) were characterized by polyphasic approache which accounts different genotypic and phenotypic properties. In total 35 Lactobacillus strains were analyzed. Strains were analysed using biochemical tests (API 50CH) and molecular genetic methods: species specific PCR, rep-PCR with (GTG)5 primer and by RAPD with M13 primer. Identity 91.4 % (32 strains from 35 analysed) was found out between biochemical tests and species specific PCR. Strains of species Lactobacillus helveticus were identified mainly. From the results it follows that species specific PCR enabled to obtain most reliable results from molecular biology methods used.
