Masaryk University celebrated its 105th anniversary with two sports and social events that took place on the university campus in Bohunice in mid-May.

The MUNISS inter-university competition, organised by the Brno City Council in cooperation with Masaryk University, changed this year from a six-month teamwork to a four-day hackathon. Students from three Brno-based universities worked on a topic assigned by the City of Brno. The winning team is now refining their proposal as part of the follow-up competition MUNISS+. The students will present the result at Urbis – The Smart Cities Meetup.
On Wednesday 15 May, the first edition of the MUNI RUN took place on the Bohunice Campus. It was attended not only by MUNI students and employees, but also by athletes from the general public, including children.
The Masaryk University budget for 2024 amounting to CZK 11.8 billion was approved by the MU Academic Senate at its 278th session on Monday. Compared to the previous year, the budget has increased by CZK 1.8 billion.
The new green roof on the ECON MUNI building will contribute to improving the environment and will have a positive impact on the mental health of students and staff. Its renovation took several months, and the first visitors saw it on Monday 29 April.
On Wednesday, 15 May, the first year of the MUNI RUN will take place on the university campus in Bohunice. Participation is open to the general public – adults, children, students and MU employees. Proceeds from the event will be donated to the MUNI HELPS Volunteer Centre.
Scientists based in the US, Emily C. Dore and Michal Horný, delivered a lecture within the MUNI Seminar Series on 10 April. Its main topic was population health and health equity from the perspective of a sociologist and an economist. In this interview, they tell us what their respective fields have in common, compare Czech and US healthcare systems and open up about the work-life balance at US universities.
