You Can't Go Far without a Foundation in Law...
Introduction to Law is the first legal course you will encounter when you begin your studies at ECON MUNI. In this course, you will broaden and deepen your theoretical and practical legal knowledge, which will help you to understand the legal framework of the economic environment in the Czech Republic and the European Union. By solving practical examples from private and public law, you will learn how to find relevant legal regulations and interpret them with the aid of legal commentaries, national and European case law and guidelines published by public authorities. Additionally, you will become familiar with searching for information in public registers, especially the commercial register, trade register, administrative register of economic entities, and cadastre of real estate.
What will you learn?
- Describe the current legal system in the Czech Republic and understand the relationships between international, European, and national law.
- Understand the law as a complex system that establishes the framework for the functioning of the economic system.
- Explain the basic principles and institutes of law and their application.
- Distinguish individual branches of law, understand the differences between them and grasp their methods of legal regulation.
- Utilize legal information systems and public registers to search for and interpret legal information using commentary literature and case law.
How is the teaching conducted?
Introduction to Law is taught through lectures and subsequent seminars. The theoretical principles and foundations of private and public law are explained during lectures and then explored and discussed in greater depth during seminars. There is a strong emphasis on applying theoretical knowledge through independent problem-solving of assigned case studies using the legal information system ASPI and public registers, as well as on formulating one's own arguments and engaging in discussions with others.
