State Final Examination
at the Department of Finance

Examination Process

The Final State Examination for students of bachelor's and follow-up master's degree programs, starting from the academic year 2019/2020, consists of two parts and lasts a total of 45 minutes:

  • defence of the final thesis (30 minutes),
  • professional discussion (15 minutes).

The Final Examination begins with the defence of the final thesis (bachelor’s or diploma thesis), which consists of the following parts:

  • Student’s introductory presentation – an overview of the thesis objectives, methodology, results, and conclusions, supported by a PowerPoint or PDF presentation, not exceeding 15 minutes.
  • Presentation of the supervisor’s and reviewer’s reports – both the student and the examination committee are informed of the evaluations; the committee selects questions from the reports for the student to answer.
  • Student’s responses to the questions from the reports, including any comments on the evaluations and a discussion of the thesis.

The thesis defence is followed by the academic discussion, which focuses on the topic of the defended thesis. Its scope is defined by the list of compulsory and selective courses within the respective study program. The list of these courses by program is provided on the right.

In individual cases, the chair of the Final State Examination committee may decide to shorten or extend the above-mentioned time limits if deemed necessary or appropriate based on the course of the examination.

The result of the Final State Examination is announced individually to each student after their examination or collectively to all students once all examinations have concluded, depending on the decision of the examination committee.
