Description | In recent years, several techniques were applied for studies of the embryo metabolome regarding embryo viability assessment. They are the most important and challenging tasks in the assisted reproduction for pregnancy rates after embryo transfer are dependent on the quality or developmental potential of selected embryos. Besides other molecules, amino acids are essential for embryonic well-being. It was found that amino acids profiling could predict blastocyst formation and clinical pregnancy. However, utilization of analytical techniques measuring levels of amino acids in clinical laboratories is hampered by low clinical practicality and expensiveness. Capillary electrophoresis (CE) coupled with contactless conductivity detection is highly efficient analytical technique which can be miniaturized onto chip and be fully automatic. Acquisition and operating costs are acceptable, sample consumption is negligible. For measurement of amino acids differences, there are placed demands on sensitivity. CE offers a wide variety of online preconcentration techniques, e.g. acetonitrile stacking, thus sensitivity can be improved without handling with a sample. |
