Description | N-Acetyl-D-mannosamine (ManNAc) is often used as a precursor in the chemical or enzymatic synthesis of the neuraminic acids found in glycolipids and glycoproteins. ManNAc is also a synthetic intermediate for a number of carbohydrate-derived families of biologically active compounds and pharmaceutical candidates. The main goal of this work is to produce N-acetyl-mannosaminidase via mutagenesis of mannosidase and to employ it in enzymatic synthesis of compounds containing ManNAc. |
