Description Satellite imagery became a standard component of geographical atlases since the beginning of space research using artificial Earth satellites regardless automatic or human controlled ones. Satellite images provide the users with unusual kind of information. They play mostly a complementary role in atlas with exception of specialized satellite atlases. They demonstrate all the advantages and disadvantages of the remote sensing of the Earth. The informational and educational value of available satellite atlases published in selected countries of the world was tested with geography students before and after they passed the subject of remote sensing during their study. The questionnaire research results support the idea that the informational value of atlases growths with the level of independent knowledge about the remote sensing at all. For specially uneducated readers, satellite atlases play mostly a balanced aesthetical-visual role.
