Description The present article deals with children’s practice of contacting new people online and going to face to face meetings with these people. Building on a series of theories, we analyzed the factors that were connected with meeting new people in the case of children surveyed by the EU Kids Online project (2009-2011). Older children, girls and heavier, self-confident communicators tend to expand more their social circle through contacting new people. The connection with sensation seeking behaviour, risky offline behaviours, emotional problems as well as problematic internet-related activities, such as exposure to online sexual content and excessive internet use, should raise some concerns, in spite of the small number of affected children.
