| Description | The societal importance of tertiary education and the controversy of this problematic are reflected in the discussion connected with this process. Twenty years ago, the purpose of higher education was to educate a closed group of social and academic elites. Nowadays its scope expanded and included a significantly larger proportion of the population. The aim of this paper is to characterize the process of higher education transformation using the available statistical data and to validate opportunities of its comparison to the theoretical concept of higher education masification by American political scientist Martin Trow. |
