Description Activities of most of non-profit organizations are dependent on voluntary work of their members and supporters. Economical benefit of this work is very high and its value represents considerable latent financial resource. Persons involved in non-profit sector continually search for reliable performance indicators that meet their specifics and needs. One of these indicators is the value of volunteer time that has been advocated in recent years in the Czech Republic and other countries as well. There are many difficulties while evaluating volunteer work so that we do not dispose of a method bringing sufficient results. Status of volunteers in the Czech society, definition of volunteers and a value of volunteer time as well as the general need of evaluating in non-profit sector have been discussed.
