Description The paper deals with the context of liberation of the cultural landscape concept in the international initiatives of landscape protection and nature conservation. After brief introduction of cultural landscape concept the traditions of continental philosophy forming binary thinking about nature/culture dichotomy are discussed. Subsequently there is discussed the integration of cultural landscapes into the World Heritage and into the European legislation, which moves forward to acceptance of the cultural values reshaping traditional opposition between humans and environment. European Landscape Convention emphasizes the contribution of democratization and participation to shape the communication framework for conservation, heritage, planning and sustainable land use in cultural landscape.
