Citation
Description In the last decades, study of effects of early institutional childcare has been one of the cornerstones of European social policy agenda in relation to workfamily reconciliation and improvement in childrens skills. This paper is based on the ELSPAC study data the longitudinal study on pregnancy and childhood. Using various statistical tools, an analysis was made of an exhaustive sample of all children born between 1991 and 1992 in Brno and Znojmo, Czech Republic, who attended, with various intensity, institutional childcare up to the age of 3. On the one hand, no evidence was found which would confirm a positive influence of childcare on childs cognitive development. This holds for all children in general as well as for the children from stimulipoor families. On the other hand, the concern that too much non-maternal childcare harms children emotionally wasnt confirmed either. Key words: early childcare, cognitive and emotional development of children, new social risks, Czech labor market.
