Description | By using insertional mutagenesis, we have demonstrated that a putative quinone reductase encoded by the ferB gene confers increased susceptibility to 1,4-naphthoquinones, but not to 1,4-benzoquinones. This difference may be due to a one-electron reduction of naphthoquinones to reactive radical semiquinones and subsequent generation of oxygen reactive species. |
