Description | Management of public debt is a relatively new instrument of fiscal policy in the Czech Republic however it is a standard instrument of fiscal policy for managing public debt in the foreign countries, especially in the former EU-15. Since the end of the 1990s public budgets deficits and their conversion to public debt increase has been the feature of the Czech practice. Considering foreign experiences public debt management may serve here as a possible instrument for minimizing and/or optimising costs of public debt service and a level of public debt. This paper theoretically describes public debt management and introduces its practical form in the Czech Republic. The comparison of alternative approaches to public debt management in selected European Union countries is also comprised. |
