Description Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a multifactorial disorder with significant genetic contribution. In the past few years, interest in the molecular psychiatry genetics of ADHD has grown enormously, with many groups searching for susceptibility genes. Dopamine genes have been the initial candidates based on the site of the action of the psychostimulant drugs. We have investigated whether there is an association between ADHD and VNTR polymorphism of DAT1. The aim of our case-control study was to determine whether the ADHD boys (118) have different genotype and alelic frequencies of examined genes compared to controls (153). The statistical analysis using Fisher exact test did not confirme the association of the previously possitive investigated 10-repeat allele or 10/10 genotype of DAT1 gene (p = 0.531). However, we found the association of long 10/11 genotype of DAT1 gene (p = 0.0063 and p = 0.0127). The difference in the frequency of 10/11 genotype may signify that rare 11 allele may increase higher risk of ADHD.
