Description Our laboratory specialized in the analysis of biomedical images acquired using optical microscopes (Laboratory of Optical Microscopy - LOM) has been gradually evolving since 1997. It is a highly professional interdisciplinary workplace, where experts in informatics, mathematics, physics, molecular biology, and medicine successfully collaborate. The laboratory is equipped both for the biomedical material preparation for microscopy (especially cell component staining with fluorescent dyes) and for automated optical microscopy. Concerning automated microscopy, it is equipped with Zeiss Axiovert inverted fluorescence microscope with CARV confocal unit, motorized components for the x, y, z stage movement and the optical filter change, a special camera for fluorescence microscopy (Roper Scientific) and a control two-processor computer. A unique device for automated micro-axial tomography, developed in collaboration with colleagues from Heidelberg, is also available. Overnight acquisition and image analysis is possible in automated mode. The equipment described above is unique in the world and patented in the Czech Republic. It allows processing of a considerably higher and statistically more significant amount of cell material than other systems in other laboratories.
