Description | Michal Kucera and Jiri Machacek relate how an award-winning GIS project aids archaeological research in the Czech Republic. It was in 1995 that the University's Institute of Archaeology and Museology first applied GIS techniques at Pohansko. Since then, students have digitised archived excavation data, added new information, and initiated complex analyses with the GIS.This activity earned Masaryk University the "2002 GeoMedia Best Practices Award" in the education category from Intergraph Mapping and GIS Solutions. This annual award is bestowed for groundbreaking classroom applications of Intergraph's GeoMedia technology. |
