Description | Despite the expansion of computer technology, internet access and digital services, a significant part of the Czech population is still digitally excluded. This means that they do not have the opportunity to use the services and benefits of the digital society. There is, however, a comparably large part of the population that has the technology and connectivity, but still does not use digital services at all or only to a minimum extent. In such cases, we refer to digital disadvantage or digital inequalities. This article seeks to reveal which socio-demographic groups are most at risk of digital disadvantage. Aimed at achieving this aim, the author employs the secondary analysis of data obtained from the 2024 Household and Personal Information and Communication Technology Use Sample Survey. The author concludes that the likelihood of digital disadvantage is lower for women and significantly lower for those who have attained a higher level of education. In contrast, being a member of a large household or living in a rural area significantly increases the risk of digital disadvantage. In addition to the usual characteristics of disadvantaged groups, the leading of a lifestyle that does not involve the use of digital services is a further important factor. |
