Description Language advising sessions aim to enable reflective dialogue focusing on students' learning. When engaging in dialogue with their advisors, students should co-construct an understanding of certain aspects of their learning process. The poster shares experience in conducting these sessions in the target language at the Masaryk University Language Centre and overcoming certain language and communication barriers during those sessions. Since some students struggle to reflect or evaluate their learning verbally, visual tools and techniques have proven effective in aiding students to engage in reflective interactions with their advisors. The poster compares how various students react to the materials offered by the advisors and shows that some students create their own visual tools. Based on a content analysis of selected advising session excerpts, the poster demonstrates that visuals provide a helpful starting point or a valuable contribution to the advising dialogue. The examples illustrate that visualizing aspects such as their language learning history, learning environment, progress, or goals enhances students' understanding of their learning process. Furthermore, visual tools facilitate meaningful interaction between advisees and advisors, allowing both to experience 'aha, I see' moments.
