Description An essential part of the comprehensive evaluation of the effect of psychotropic drugs is animal preclinical research. Preclinical research serves to elucidate the neurobiological mechanism of the effects of xenobiotics. On its basis, it is possible to evaluate their influence on psychological, metabolic, hormonal or vascular functions. Behavioral pharmacology strives to construct and validate animal behavior models, with the help of which it is possible to investigate the potential of new substances for the therapy of neuropsychiatric disorders, such as anxiety, depression, psychosis, etc. The purpose of animal models cannot fully reproduce human psychopathology but providing exact insight into the mechanism of action of xenobiotics intended for the therapy of these conditions.
