Description | The summary research report represents the main output of the project South Caucasus at the Intersection of Interests, which was implemented in 2021-2022. The report primarily focuses on the current situation in the region from the political-security perspective, as well as from the perspective of the region's economic importance and its importance in the field of energy security. In this context, it takes into account both the involvement of major international actors in relation to the region and also the existing interests of the Czech Republic and Czech foreign policy, as well as the Czech Republic as a member state of the European Union and NATO. It also takes into account the fact that the Czech Republic held the Presidency of the Council of the EU in the second half of 2022. Thus, the European Union was an important actor whose involvement in the region was mapped. Furthermore, the role of the Russian Federation as one of the key external actors (also in the context of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine), China (especially in terms of economic and trade relations with the states of the region), Turkey, and to a lesser extent the United States of America, Iran and Israel, and international organisations, especially the OSCE and partly NATO and the UN, were elaborated in more detail. The report also contains an analysis of future scenarios with regard to the war in Ukraine and recommendations for Czech foreign policy. |
