Description | Circular economy is a current European and global phenomenon, which is gaining more and more attention, especially in relation to municipal waste, after the adoption of the EU Circular Packages and Act No. 541/2020 Coll. on Waste. For the latter, it sets specific and ambitious long-term sorting targets for 2025, 2030 and 2035, which are legally binding for municipalities. However, meeting these targets can be very difficult for municipalities, as their current practice in the field of circular economy is very limited, both in terms of quantity and structure of municipal waste. The aim of this paper is to show their potential in relation to circular economy by analysing four selected cities of the South Moravian Region for the years 2019-2021. The results of the analysis show that, in relation to the current setting of the objectives of Act No. 541/2020 Coll. on waste, the implementation of these objectives will be very difficult, if not impossible, with impacts on the economy of the municipalities. |
