Description | The presentation reviewed studies which have investigated the effect of using pragmatics instruction on the development of second-language learners’ pragmatic competence, especially in relation to their writing skills. The use of such instruction has proved to have a positive effect on students of higher education who have reached various levels of proficiency in writing texts in English. This implies that there is an obvious justification for incorporating the knowledge of the concepts of pragmatics into English lessons, although its effectiveness may depend on many factors, including the type of feedback the students receive from their teachers or the activities in which they are involved at class. |
