| Description | In his essays, Milan Kundera admits that he found a special consolation in the music of Vares and Xenakis, which consists in reconciling with the inevitability of finiteness. Carl Gustav Jung called James Joyce the prophet of insensitivity in his analysis of the Odyssey. Here he also comes up with the thesis that emotionality is an extension of brutality. The balance of this sentimentality is brought about by the prophets of assentimentality, according to Jung Joyce, according to Kundera Xenakis. According to Kundera, music has always faced the objectivity of the world with its subjectivity. However, there are times when subjectivity or emotionality (which normally returns a person to his essence and alleviates the coldness of the intellect) becomes an instrument of brutality and evil. In such moments, on the contrary, objective music becomes a beauty that washes away the layers of emotionality and dampens the barbarity of sentiment. Martin Flašar's lecture is based on Kundera's thesis towards further reflections on the role of man in the music of the 20th and 21st centuries. |
