Description | The long-term regional policy of metropolitan regions contributes to the socio-economic development of the whole functional region, as it helps to eliminate disharmony in the activities of stakeholders. Its importance is emphasized in many developed countries. Development of metropolitan regions is very significantly supported in the European Union through the ITI tool. In the Czech environment, however, metropolitan cooperation has not yet been institutionalized. Professional interdisciplinary discussion on this issue (with a strong political context), which would provide valid conclusions for the needs of planning practice, is developing relatively slowly. The presented paper aims to present selected results of the first and unique investigation of the potential for intermunicipal metropolitan cooperation in the model area of the Brno metropolitan area. The research results indicate a partial willingness to deal with a more formal institutionalization of metropolitan cooperation. It would be possible to transfer some competencies to the newly created metropolitan expert platform/agency. The cooperation is significantly connected to the awareness of its advantages (not only of a financial nature). The requirement to preserve the "basic" self-governing competencies of the affected municipalities persists. |
