Description Alzheimer's disease is cause of 60-70 % cases of dementia worldwide. It is chronic neurodegenerative disease characterized by loss of neurons and synapses in the cerebral cortex and certain subcortical regions and cerebral accumulation of amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles. Based on amyloid hypothesis, inhibition of ß-secretase enzyme is one of the target treatments of Alzheimer's disease. For ß-secretase enzyme assays a novel method by means of capillary electrophoresis with fluorescence detection was developed.
