Description Well-developed regions and countries have to build their competitive advantage on launching and diffusion of innovations. Research and development represent one of the major sources for innovation. Empirical experience indicates that a substantial part of R&D is funded by the business sector in the regions of innovation leaders. However, research activity is unevenly distributed. Our analysis focuses on the evaluation of research activity of business sector in regions of the Czech Republic. We can observe quite large differences among the regions, and we can state that Prague and the South Moravian and Central Bohemian Regions are characterised by the highest research activity. At the same time, large differences also exist in the framework of individual regions. The aim of this paper is to show how entrepreneurial research in is concentrated within the Czech regions in individual districts and to find out in which regions the uneven concentration of R&D is the most significant. Our analysis is based on using localization index and the localization coefficient, which are subsequently compared to the basic R&D indicators. The highest values of the localization coefficient are reached by the South Moravian, Pilsen and Central Bohemian Regions. Based on the results of the analysis, the regions of the Czech Republic can be divided into four groups.
