Description In 1997, The American parodic duo Impaled Northern Moonforest, consisting of members of a grindcore band Anal Cunt, has released a short demo, which presented itself as the most authentic Norwegian black metal of all time. Using crude artworks, lo-fi sound of acoustic guitar, thigh percussions, absurdly long track names, and satanic or dark occulture themes, their record presents unique way of creating a subcultural identity in the field of extreme metal music. This study utilizes content analysis of track list names to show, that Impaled Northern Moonforest created their black metal identity in the framework of the reactive, paradigmatically conform Satanism, which is derived mainly from pop-cultural, panic-inducing media image, and through which they condensed a number of typical black metal themes in a very little space. Such a parodical emphasis of satanic and black metal themes offered an opportunity to observe a specific way of perceiving second wave Norwegian black metal by musicians whom approached it from a different position of the subcultural capital in the field of extreme metal.
