Description | The paper presents an overview of the classification of communicative units according to their degree of communicative dynamism, explains the position of function words within the scale of thematic, transitional, and rhematic elements. Although function words usually carry relatively low degrees of communicative dynamism and perform transitional and thematic functions, they sometimes take over the role of the most dynamic element within a clause or phrase and become rhematic. |
