Description One of the main causes of water pollution is wastewater discharged from point sources. Quality of water is related to the protection of waters in accordance with the Council Directive 91/271/EEC concerning urban wastewater treatment until the year 2010. Despite the efforts to support water projects from the Structural Funds, the requirements, resulting from the Czech legislation and European legislation, were still not met. The article analyzes the agglomerations, which do not meet the requirements of the European legislation, and the applicants for the structural assistance. The objective is to determine to what extent the projects financed from the Structural Funds satisfied the conditions of European legislation in regions of the Czech Republic. The comparative analysis uses the primary data from the information system of the operational programs in the programming period 2007 – 2013 and the secondary data from Ministry of Environment of the Czech Republic. The results indicate that some agglomeration still unsolved their urban wastewater treatment, some of them in size over 10 000 PE (population equivalent).
