Description | Municipal waste management is a relatively young yet dynamically growing sector of the national economy in the Czech Republic. Theoretically, there are numerous factors influencing municipal solid waste (MSW) management expenditure, e.g. amount of generated MSW, price level (price of MSW treatment facilities), quality of services, frequency of services, distance to MSW treatment facilities, previous municipal experience etc. In relation to the amendment of the Act on Waste in the Czech Republic and stormy discussion related to future changes in landfill tax which is low with respect to European Union Member States, we focus on the landfill tax as one of the determinants of MSW management expenditure. Within our analysis we try to model several landfill tax rise scenarios and show their economic and social impacts on municipalities and MSW managegement expenditure. |
