| Description | De observatione ciborum, known also as Epistola Anthimi, represents one of the basic works of genre regimen sanitatis (rule of health). It was written already in 6th century, without the influence of Arabic medical texts. There are two 15 century manuscripts preserved in Bohemian libraries: the manuscript XIV A 12 in Prague National Library ant the manuscript No. 5 of the Town Museum and Gallery in Vodňany. Although the first of the two manuscripts was taken into consideration by the editors of the two existing critical editions of the work, the text of the second manuscript was not identified until 2012 by Julie Koldova. I her diploma thesis, she compared the two bohemian manuscripts and provided an edition of the newly found manuscript from Vodňany. The aim of this paper is to present the specific tradition of the Bohemian manuscripts in comparison to manuscripts of the same text in Western Europe. The Bohemian manuscripts are very close to each other (considering length and structure of the text, omissions, language etc.) and represent a specific late-medieval tradition within the European context. |
