Description The draft genomes of two temperate Staphylococcus sciuri bacteriophages, phi575 a phi879 have been analysed. Genomes are 41052 and 38506 bp long. Their 57 and 53 open reading frames (ORFs) are arranged in functional modules encoding packaging, head and tail morphogenesis, lysis, integration and DNA replication. According to their genome structure and electron microscopy they both belong to Siphoviridae family. Bioinformatic analysis allowed us to assign putative function to 32 from 57, and 32 from 53 gene products respectively. Phages phi575 a phi879 show similarities mostly in modules for head-tail morphogenesis and DNA replication.
