Description Within the scope of our research project we performed monitoring of microbial contamination of an environment where textile artefacts are manipulated. We monitored microbial contamination of artefacts themselves and their environment, number of dust particles in the air and influence of active air-conditioning on occurrence of bacteria and microscopic fungi in an environment. Register and documentation offices, conservation-restoration workshops, depositories and inner and outer expositions (open-air museum) were inspected. Obtained results show that environmental conditions must be considered to be significant factor influencing the lifetime of textile artefacts. It was shown that microorganisms can breed very quickly when exposed to convenient conditions and their metabolism contributes to damage of textile artefacts. Due to this reason conditions at places of textile artefacts location should be monitored and controled.
