Description | Innovations are considered important source of competitiveness in the developed countries. Knowledge obtained within research and development is one of the sources of innovations. R&D are supported in the framework of regional policy currently, because regions represent important element in the transition to knowledge economy. Founding and development of research centres is specific type of innovation support. This article deals with public support of excellent research centres in the Czech regions and it analyses projects that were supported in the first priority axe of Operational programme Research and development for innovations. The aim of the article is to identify expenditure for development of European excellence centres in the Czech regions and to analyse relation between amount of obtained support and research potential. The supplementary objective of this article is to characterize supported important research projects through presentation of their case studies. The analyses showed that there are big differences among regions with respect to obtained support. The most resources are allocated to the Central Bohemian and South Moravian regions. Through the Pearson correlation coefficient the anticipated positive correlation between obtained support and research potential of regions was confirmed. Slightly less conclusive results were confirmed also by the Spearman rank correlation. |
