Description Oligodeoxynucleotides (ODNs) with repetitive cytosine (C) or guanine (G) sequences are observed in the promoter region of the oncogenes and of human telomeric DNA. Here we present electrochemical and spectral studies of short C or G homo-ODNs in solutions with different pH. Electrochemistry was represented by linear sweep or cyclic voltammetry in connection with a hanging mercury drop electrode (HMDE). As a spectral method circular dichroism was used. It was found that cytosine ODNs form stable structures, the so-called i-motifs and guanine ODN structures form tetraplex via a G-quartet. Both structures are dependent on pH and the ODN chain length.
