Description The project of the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic No. TA02020395 (2012-2015) is oriented on research of drought impacts on the biota of small streams. The main objectives of the project include the development of multimetric method for retrospective biological indication of drought episodes based on the analysis of invertebrate communities inhabiting the bottom (benthic macroinvertebrates). Another outcome of the project will be the map of vulnerability of streams by drying. The project includes field research, extensive literature recherché oriented on species traits and exploration of data from various databases. One of the most important sources of information is data base of the former Agriculture Water Management Authority called SALAMANDER, including the results of about fifteen years long monitoring of control profiles on small watercourses. The database contains information relating to the control profiles well as to the individual samples and results of analyses of biota, water and sediment. The information from both permanent and intermittent streams together with the results of own field research and the literature recherché were used for selecting and testing the suitability of individual metrics (indices) for bioindication and also for defining the areas in which the streams are vulnerable to desiccation.
