Description The paper includes a regional geographical analysis of the changes in commuting to work and universities from Slovakia to the Czech Republic and in the opposite direction after the split of Czechoslovakia at the end of 1992. The frequencies of travel by Czech citizens to Slovakia significantly decreased and there was no considerable increase after both states joined the EU in 2004; the same cannot be said of travel to the Czech Republic by Slovak citizens. On the contrary, the frequency of some contacts in the direction of the Slovak Republic - Czech Republic is gradually increasing. Number of commuters to work from Slovakia to the Czech Republic has increased almost six times since the end of 1992 and the number of university students studying in the Czech Republic is roughly tenfold. The paper among other things deals with the causes of this development.
