Description Aim of the study: In patients admitted with acute heart failure (AHF) to evaluate a relationship between entry hemoglobin (Hb) level and variables that are known to influence a long-term mortality in patients admitted with acute heart failure (AHF). To investigate a long-term mortality and describe differencies in impact of anemia on survival of all patients with AHF and particularly for the most frequent etiologies - acute coronary syndrome (ACS) presenting as STEMI (n = 325) and nonSTEMI (n = 207), decompensated ischemic heart disease (IHD, n = 209) and dilated cardiomyopathy (CMP, n = 88). Conclusion: The presence of anemia increases 1 -year mortality of patients with acute heart failure by 54 %. The relationship between hemoglobin level and mortality is nearly linear. The negative impact of low entry Hb is expressed particularly in nonSTEMI ACS patients. With high specificity but low senzitivity, the value of entry hemoglobin enables to point out those patients who are in high risk of dying within a year.
