Relationship between genetic variability in candidate genes involved in angiogenesis and proliferative retiopathy in Type 2 diabetes mellitus. Proliferative diabetic retinopathy represents one of the most serious microvascular complikation of diabetes and is the most frequent cause of blindness in developed countries. Proliferative diabetic retinopathy develops as a result of impairement of retinal vessels due to metabolic changes in diabetic, especially hyperglycemia.
