Rector's awards for researchers and a lector from the FEA

On Thursday, June 10, the Rector of Masaryk University, Martin Bareš, praised the extraordinary achievements in science and research, pedagogical activities, art and civic activities. The Faculty of Economics and Administration was also successfully represented.

Ing. Dominika Tóthová, Ph.D. was awarded in the category "Award for extraordinary research results for young scientists under 35 years of age". She focuses in her research on the environment with regard to air quality or on waste and circulation management of municipalities. Her recent successes include the article Assessment of the burden on population due to transport-related air pollution: The Czech core motorway network, prepared together with her colleague Ing. Vilém Pařil, Ph.D., and published in 2020 in the prestigious Journal of Cleaner Production. The article deals with the economic evaluation of air pollution near the Czech D1 motorway on the health of the population. Its adoption and publication in journals, which are among the most cited in the field, is a prestigious achievement.

In another scientific category "Award for long-term excellent results in research", the award went to prof. Ing. Osvald Vašíček, CSc., who is a world-renowned expert in the field of applied macroeconomics and practical modeling of real economies. Many of the outputs of his research activities have become a basic source of information for the departments of macroeconomic analysis and forecasts of both the Czech National Bank and many other central banks in the world. He has trained many generations of experts, many of his graduates work in the highest analytical and research positions in domestic and international monetary institutions and commercial banks. Prof. Vašíček is also one of the founders of the Czech Econometric Society, of which he was the first vice-president and a long-term member of the executive committee.

In the field of success in teaching, Mgr. Jan Böhm was awarded in the category "Award for outstanding teachers". As a teacher, he focuses on statistics, data mining, discrete deterministic models and simulation of financial models. At MU, he works at the Department of Applied Mathematics and Informatics of the FEA and at the Department of Biostatistics and Data Analysis of the RECETOX Center. Jan Böhm's students appreciate the intelligibility with which he can explain complex topics.
