| Description | This paper deals with disintegrative tendencies and phenomena in the Moravian-Slovak borderland after the split of Czechoslovakia at the end of 1992. The frequencies of travel by Czech citizens to Slovakia significantly decreased and there was no considerable increase after both states joined the EU in 2004; the same cannot be said of travel to the Czech Republic by Slovak citizens. Nevertheless, the frequency of some SR – CR contacts is gradually increasing. This paper includes a regional geographical analysis of the migration issue, labour and school commuting, as well as the results of a questionnaire regarding the travel of Slovak citizens for shopping and services in the Czech Republic – specifically to the border town of Hodonín. It can be assumed that in the future the current frequency of Slovak travels to the CR for shopping will drop, largely due to the increased value added tax on foodstuffs in the Czech Republic. |
