| Description | The paper goes beyond bases of vector spaces dealing with underdetermined systems (overparameterized systems, frames) and providing exact defininitions and properties in spaces both of finite and infinite dimension. Examples of frame representations illustrate the new concept in particular in the field of signal processing. A categorization of frames by their properties is given. The paper concludes with application examples to specific signals and evaluates possible pros and cons of underdetermined systems. |
