Description | Macleaya microcarpa is one of the main source of quaternary benzo[c]phenanthridine alkaloids (QBA) which belong to a large group of isoquinoline alkaloids. The main alkaloids sanguinarine and chelerythrine are very often accompanied by minor benzo[c]phenanthridine alkaloids - sanguirubine, sanguilutine, chelirubine, chelilutine and macarpine. For isolation of minor QBA, especially macarpine, the most perspective source are roots of perennial culture, where the content of protopine alkaloids decreases. This fact is in good agreement with biosynthetic pathway of isoquinoline alkaloids, where macarpine is in the end of this pathway. |
