Description We investigate the political-budget cycle in the Czech republic in 1995–2008 and Austria in 1988–2008. Political-budget cycle is defined as a deliberate recurring manipulation of fiscal policy by a government. Policymakers exploit it to get reelected. Political-budget cycle appears in the form of higher public expenditures, lower taxes or larger budget deficits. It can lead to ineffective allocation of resources in economy. Our econometric analysis proved incidence of political-budget cycles in both economies. Standard model of political-budget cycle was modified in a case of only one economy.
